Our hearts beat for forests. From the Boreal forests of Finland to the cork oak woodlands of Portugal we understand the value of forests for biodiversity as well as for the wellbeing of our planet and us humans. We want to minimize our environmental footprint at every step: from the carefully thought-out design to the choice of materials, from logistics to packaging and end user services.

 WE DONATE

We want to give back to the environment and to the community.

We donate 2 percent of our yearly profits to the WWF to conserve the rainforests, the species and people who call it home.

Two thirds of the World’s plant and animal species live in the rainforests. The disappearance of the rainforests is one of the biggest environmental problems of our time. By contributing to the preservation work of the rainforests, we support the rich biodiversity of the forests and their importance to the wellbeing of our planet.

USING CORK IS AN environmental statement

We chose to work with cork not only because of its unrivalled properties and beauty, but also because the very existence of the cork woodlands is crucial for the ecosystem. The cork oak tree benefits from being stripped and a harvested cork oak tree absorbs up to five times more CO2 – a greenhouse gas that causes climate change – than a non-harvested one. Harvested trees live longer, up to three centuries.

The cork woodlands are important to many species, such as insects, migrating birds and the endangered Iberian lynx.

The cork oak trees bind water and nutrients to the soil and protect the landscape from erosion.

BETTER WAYS TO DELIVER

At every stage of production and the product’s lifetime we aim to minimize our carbon footprint and we compensate our CO2 emissions through the Gold Standard -project.

All products are sent from Studio Katriina Nuutinen in Joensuu, Finland to their new homes around the world using flat pack delivery. We use recycled cardboard and carbon neutral boxes. The paper we use is made of paper from Nordic FSC-certified forests and is manufactured at a paper mill that uses renewable energy.

WE SUPPORT LOCAL CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Our aim is to find ways to endorse the circular economy and do the best to slow down climate change. We are using circular economy papers inside our Thinkers&Makers notebook covers - we work together with a local print house in Joensuu, Finland. By re-using their paper we prevent them ending up in collection of waste paper. We are constantly looking for more local enterprises and their by-product materials for collaboration to support the vital circular economy.
